Aamir Shahid, better known by his stage name am1r, is an R&B Artist, singer/songwriter, and producer.
Growing up in a musical home, his mother taught him to play the piano at age 9. Around the same time, he discovered his ability to sing. During his teenage years, he developed a passion for R&B music, being greatly influenced by the soulful sounds of R&B artists Boyz II Men, Usher, Craig David, Marques Houston, and many more.
After graduating from University with a Business degree, he decided to follow his true passion instead and pursue a career in music. Not knowing a single person in the music industry, he decided to take matters into his own hands and taught himself how to produce music. Through his influences and his own experimentations, he developed his own sound; a unique rendition of R&B, Soul, and Pop, best described as a seamless blend of piano-laced melodies accompanied by rich, melismatic vocals.
In 2009, just a year into producing music, he produced the official remix for Canadian Rapper Imaan Faith’s single “Wanna be loved” featuring Colby O’Donis.
Later in 2011, his songwriting and production skills caught the attention of American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, where he co-wrote or produced several songs with Ruben and multi-platinum songwriter Michael Warren. In addition to this, his song “Real love” was heard all over the MTV and VH1 networks on shows such as “Washington heights”, “Hollywood Exes”, “Made”, and “Football Wives”.
In 2013, while producing for local artists, am1r decided that it was time to focus on his own artistry. He started a new YouTube channel and Soundcloud page later that year, focusing on covers of popular songs, showcasing both his vocal ability as well as production skills. Fast forward to 2015, after amassing a combined 5 million plays online, he is getting ready to release his self-produced debut album through the premiere R&B label, Star Base Music. With an ever growing fanbase as an artist, he is determined to make a lasting contribution to the genre of music that he fell in love with in his formative years.
